ZOMBIES & CHIPS

Zombies have become somewhat iconic. We don't have to worry about any real life zombie apocalypse because they're already swarming all over TV, movies, and videogames. It tends to be the “go to” idea when you've run out of all others.

In other words, they're just “chips” and like chips, they can be served with practically anything these days. There are some good examples of their use, but mostly they're a lazy add-on. People do like chips, but not all the time. Take, for example the drawing I've done. If zombies are representing chips in that image, it would be “chips and chips” That's when it starts to get a bit ridiculous.

THE HORROR

There are fewer images of horror than this. You're sat going through the motions and when you turn to reach for the toilet paper you find there is none but a mocking scrap left. You could be at home when this happens or, even worse, in a public toilet. It's a situation that wouldn't be out of place in Danzig's Inferno. In such a vulnerable predicament, you know the only solution to it is to make the ultimate sacrifice....You're going to have to use your socks or underwear!

I know what some of you are thinking: “Yep, been there!”

TEAM DAGON

 A decent little drawing based around H P Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. It depicts what a modern inhabitant of Innesmouth would probably look like.

Screaming Soul

With this particular dreamscape piece, I did something a little different. I started with a simple sketch of a screaming face and worked around it to produce the work above. The image itself is slightly wider, with the screaming face being more central. I wanted it to be more complementary to the distorted female figure which developed during the Rorschaching stage, so I cropped the image with photo-editing software.

The Laughing Monocled Cat

You'll see an afterlife. This, I guarantee. Whether you believe in it or not, it doesn't matter, it will be there, and it'll be Paradise! Everything you were told it would be and much, much, more. And there you'll exist, in utter bliss, for what seems like an eternity....

Then, one heavenly day, you'll notice the strangest of things: A cat wearing a monocle. It appears out of nowhere and turns up everywhere you go. There's no escaping it, no matter how hard you try. It's just always there, until it's all that is there.

It'll sit, silently looking at you, as all cats sometimes do. Watching you. Studying you. Then you'll see a smile grow on its face. A smile which turns into a chuckle. A chuckle which turns into a giggle. A giggle which then bursts into a mad, howling, laugh.

And it's at this point that the full, horrific, nature of it will dawn on you. That it was all just a sick joke you've been playing on yourself. A delusion of a fading mind as it fires its last neurons before you truly die.

And The Laughing Monocled Cat, that mocking herald of your ultimate finality, will remind you of this by its very presence. It'll lay in wait for you all your life, and be there for you at the end. You can try to dismiss it, or even forget about it, but it will never forget you.

And why?

Because I've just put the idea of it into your head, and in your head it will always stay.

Hammered

Another image of an everyday phrase juxtaposed onto a comic-book style frame. In this case it's the kind of phrase that you hear on a bus when someone's on their phone. That's if they're not texting it.

If you're the type of person that does receive calls on buses in which you know you're going to have to say something like: "I'm on the bus...I'll be about ten minutes" and you hate doing that, then please feel free to attach the above image as a response to your annoying little caller to save you the humiliation of saying it out loud.
